Working From Home
Just because you work from home, doesn't mean the supervisor isn't looking over your shoulder.
Working from home can have its advantages. The number one reason people want to work from home is to avoid the daily commute. No one likes to lose 30-60 minutes of their day doing nothing but commuting between home and work.
Another reason is greater flexibility. Young parents especially need flexibility to care for their children - even with daycare. There are numerous doctor/dentist appointments, school activities, sporting activities, clubs, etc.
The best one for employers to have an employee work from home? More productive productivity. You heard right. More production. Why? No long conversations at the water cooler. An at home worker can do the laundry, dishes, make lunch at home and take less time out of their busy work schedule than the in office worker takes for breaks and lunch. Another reason? No interruptions by other employees stopping by the desk. Emails can be prioritized and handled more efficiently than having a person stop you in the middle of something to have their question (or time wasting gossip) heard.
Last, yet certainly not least of all, people like to work from home to save money. By not paying for gas or bus fare to get to work, buying lunches out, people can save money to fix up their home office.
So what does this have to do with real estate? How buyers are changing their priorities when looking for a home. How? Here are some items important to the young first time home buyers:
1) High speed internet to work from home.
2) Room for an office
3) Walking distance to work, parks, entertainment/restaurants, shopping.
4) Storage for job related items
